Why
is your company called Mythical Matters?
Not
only do we deal in mythical matters, but we believe that the mythical
matters! Mythology has always been a significant part of human culture,
and every legend, lore, tradition, and tale is important! Our company
embraces both spiritual seeking and the skeptic’s search for substantiation,
both of which hold an essential place in our quest for greater understanding.
What
does your logo represent?
The
intertwined circle and square is called Pragma. It represents the
endless interplay between spirit and matter, between emotion and
logic, between belief and doubt. The crescent moon and the cross
are borrowed from alchemical symbolism. When the moon is placed
above the cross in this fashion, it represents moving beyond the
fetters of the mundane towards greater ideas. Shoot for the moon,
even if you miss, you’ll find yourself among the stars!
Are
Storm and Shadow your real names?
Yes!
Though they are not the names we had when we were children, they
are indeed our names both legally and spiritually. Renaming is fairly
common in spiritual communities; we like to think of them as spiritual
tattoos. Many moons ago we proposed to each other under a solar
eclipse, and rather than following the patriarchal notion of the
wife taking the husband’s last name, we decided on a more equalitarian
approach to the matter. Thus, on the occasion of our Wiccan handfasting
(an ancient Celtic wedding ceremony that we held on Hallowe'en deep
in a cave!), our middle names became our shared marriage name (Eclipse),
our last names became our totem animals (Crow & Coyote), and
our first names (Storm & Shadow) became our magical names. Plus,
we see it as a great barometer of character - you can learn a lot
about a person by watching how positively and open-mindedly they
respond to something different!
Are
you both Buddhists, Wiccans, Pagans, Shamans, Skeptics, Debunkers,
or Atheists? I don’t get it, how can you embrace both belief and
doubt? Isn’t that a contradiction?
