There
are two tricks at work here. The first effect is essentially a retooled
force from the classic ‘Hot
Rod’
routine, and the second effect was inspired by a simple trick called
‘The Magic Spell’ by Karl Fulves.
For
the first trick, no matter what number you pick, you will always
land on Pragma. So if you pick One, Two, Five, or Six, you are told
to SPELL out your number and you land on Pragma. If you pick 3 or
4, you just COUNT that number of symbols and voila, Pragma again!
The tricky part is to remember which way to flip the card so the
counting looks natural (from left to right). So for (One, Two, 3,
and Six) you make a vertical flip, and for (4 and Five), you make
a horizontal flip.
The
secret to the next trick is deceptively simple. The first two taps
can be on any symbol, but the third and subsequent taps must be
in this exact order: Sun, Moon, Cross, Pragma, YinYang, Infinity.
If they spell out the symbol they chose correctly, (which is why
you get them to write it down), when they call out stop you will
be pointing to the symbol they mentally picked! If you look at the
code sigil on the business card and on the book (the symbol you
clicked to get to this page), you'll notice that it is a map to
help you remember where and in what order to tap in.
